Urban Flows: A New Water Edge
RETHINKING GURUGRAM

“We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children.”
This urban scale project aims to revive the blue-green eco corridors that recover and weave together the
urban fragments. This approach acts as an urban plug for urban disasters such as Gurugram, where Urban
flooding and Urban heat Island are no strangers.
Rain is the benediction of Mother Nature, at least that is what our culture teaches us. Then why do a few hours of rain in Gurugram wreak such havoc? The answer lies in the way we have perceived our surroundings. Modern city planning did not adequately understand or take into consideration the need to preserve and maintain natural drain lines and lakes. We built on the roads and city over these natural drainage lines rather than around them. A sophisticated framework of Blue- Green Interventions to interlink and safeguard hydrological elements of the urban landscape alongside the ecological.
Using the existing infrastructure as a starting base, the design creates a vital new thoroughfare for the city that not only ensures access to clean water for vulnerable populations but also connects the city’s neighborhoods and cultural treasures with a comprehensive slow-traffic corridor.
